Custom Reception Counter Designed for Everyday Functionality
Creating a reception area that looks professional while remaining practical for staff and visitors can make a big difference to the overall feel of a workplace. One of our recent custom projects focused on achieving exactly that with a large-scale reception counter designed specifically around the client’s workflow and space requirements.
This custom reception counter measured more than 5.4 metres in length and featured a unique layout that allowed customer access on both sides of the reception hob. The design was developed to improve accessibility while still giving staff a functional and secure working area behind the counter.
A key feature of the project was the inclusion of swing doors at both ends of the counter. This provided easy movement for staff throughout the day and helped the reception area function efficiently during busy periods. Small design considerations like this can have a significant impact on how practical a workspace feels once it is in daily use.
The overall finish combined a classic white panel front with charcoal doors, edging, and a charcoal hob front. The contrast between the colours created a clean and modern appearance without feeling overly corporate. The darker front section of the hob was also intentionally designed to accommodate the client’s company branding, giving them the opportunity to add a strong visual feature to the completed space.
Custom reception counters are often one of the most important pieces of furniture within an office fitout. They are usually the first thing visitors see when entering a business and can help shape the overall impression of the workplace. At the same time, they also need to support the practical day-to-day tasks of reception staff, including storage, accessibility, durability, and workflow.
Every workplace operates differently, which is why custom office furniture can be a worthwhile option for businesses that need furniture tailored to their layout and operational needs. Standard off-the-shelf furniture may not always suit unusual room dimensions, accessibility requirements, or branding considerations.
Projects like this highlight how custom office furniture can balance appearance with practicality. Whether it is a reception counter, boardroom table, workstation, storage solution, or custom desk setup, tailored furniture allows businesses to create spaces that work more effectively for both staff and visitors.
